Problems concerning scholasticism

(a few fleeting observations)

The problem with university scholars is they not infrequently rely on the incessant ramblings of other theorists in support of the ideas they advance. They cite this philosopher and that philosopher to substantiate their grandiose theories. Can they not think for themselves just for once? Or is it Nietzsche said this and Plato said that? They battle using tools invented by other people, not themselves. At the end of the day they cite passage after passage, partly in an attempt to appear objective and detached. For instance, they start out; 'Schopenhauer argues...', as if they as writers are in another world from the rest of humanity.

Perhaps the most compelling issues in philosophy happen spontaneously when least expected. Its best to escape the crippling trappings of the academic environment. To think on your feet is the ultimate challenge. Then, and only then, will you realise where you truly are situated. Never rest upon a single answer, never. Never assume anything. Always expect the unexpected, as then you will not be surprised when it happens. Attack academia with a vengeance. It always pays to be highly sceptical of theories that hold themselves out as being the "truth".

However, that said, the writer believes that the Marxist state of human existence is the authentic form of human existence. Of course this is a moral assertion: this is not a cold and calculated scientific observation, does it have to be? To take up Marxism is to take a ethical philosophical stance. Thousands of stances have be championed throughout history. Here, is no different. The assertion is that Marxism, or a form or variation of it, represents the ultimate form of human existence. Do you want this arithmetically calculated? What facts must be proven before you will be convinced?

It is strange how communist leaders throughout the ages have been held to a higher standard of accountability than their western counterparts. Make no mistake; atrocities happen in western democracies. Never confuse the communist state with the word "utopia". Of course things go wrong within a communist system, there are problems that must be overcome. Do they not have problems in the west?
